A Few Cartoony Crazes In Gaming In August 2023

By now, you probably know that yours truly adores plenty of vibrant cartoon styles to balance out many examples of remarkably rendered realism in the gaming industry. One fairly recent example of cartoony vibrance in an interactive experience would be the event in High Rise promoting Barbie: The Movie that featured “Stereotypical” Barbie in its cute, doll-like art style [18] [19], which was not the only gaming-related promotions for the insanely hyped and ambitiously marketed film about a fashion doll from Mattel coming to the real world [1] [47]. Speaking of fashion dolls, Barbie’s rivals from MGA Entertainment who have had a passion for fashion since 2001 are pulling off some of Kylie Jenner’s iconic outfits in a new fashionable collaboration [3] [4]. And speaking of collaborations, there happens to be one that will be explained as part of three recent cartoon crazes for gamers to tune into [29] [33] [34]. Just like how we listed a few cartoon crazes back in late 2022 [50] [51], let us list a few cartoon crazes in August 2023 so far shortly after the introduction of a quirky, fun-loving, and gaudily designed interpretation of Beelzebub being part of Helluva Boss merchandise and before the next tour in Mario Kart Tour [17] [26] [31].

If only there was a left-hand drive version of the splendid pink 1950s Corvette in association with promoting Barbie: The Movie for British, Japanese and Australian drivers in Forza Horizon 5 [20] [25] [46] [47]. And look how cute Barbie looks in High Rise [19]! [18]

It looks like Rayman will finally be back in the spotlight alongside the Rabbids in Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope [34]. Moreover, it appears that he gets along just fine with Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Peach, despite how they met in the teaser that was revealed during this year’s Ubisoft Forward a month ago [13]. Back in October 2022, we discussed how the limbless hero should be courageous and noble with no signs of being out of character, along with how Ubisoft should become a much safer workplace [50] [51]. There is an intriguing showbiz theme that brings on some individuality for a new galactic location to battle in [34]. Space Opera Network is the home of productions of what appears to be a game show, a cooking show, medieval fantasy films and so on. There is also the return of the purple lums from Rayman and Rayman 2: The Great Escape [9]. The third DLC pack for Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope named “Rayman in the Phantom Show” will be available near the end of this month [34], which makes up for how Rayman’s supposed guest appearance in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U and Super Smash Bros. For 3DS turned out to be a hoax back in 2015 [14]. 

Could this lead to the next big chapter for Rayman? How about a real Rayman 4 someday after so, so long [10] [37]? [34]

Cowabunga, dudes and dudettes! The Teenage Mutant Ninjas Turtles have been featured in some new DLC for Minecraft [29]. The skins based on all four of them are vibrantly coloured, popping off the equally detailed backgrounds. There are also skins impressively resembling April O’Neil and Master Splinter. As exciting as these crossovers can be, including the collaboration with The Incredibles a month ago and the one with Mega Man X back in February [28] [30], it is a little concerning how Minecraft might eventually become a little too dependent on crossovers to stay relevant, which is what Fortnite would tend to be criticised for [47]. Nonetheless, the crossovers in the current era of Minecraft have not been as frequent as the ones in the chapters of Fortnite and its originality can always shine in Minecraft Legends [27]. As for the collaboration with the Teenage Mutant Ninjas Turtles, it can be considered the next course during the theatrical release of Teenage Mutant Ninjas Turtles: Mutant Mayhem [29] [36]. Want a slice of square-shaped pizza [29], just as long as it is not impractically placed near a specific obstacle, which is what occurred in a Nintendo Entertainment System game a certain nerd raged at [39]?

Aside from Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck [7] [8], there are some new racers in the third season of Disney Speedstorm [33]. Calling all 2000s kids who fondly remember watching Lilo & Stitch back in the day [24]! Lilo, Stitch, Angel, Jumba and Gantu have been welcomed to the tracks in new racing suits [33]. It would be more considerably legal to make Nani a racer instead of Lilo, but nobody complained about Bart and Lisa Simpson driving in The Simpsons: Hit and Run [45]. As two of Disney’s merchandise titans, Stitch and Angel can be considered Disney Speedstorm’s answer to Team Sonic Racing’s Sonic and Amy [33] [40]. Previously, the second season of Disney Speedstorm welcomed Woody, Jessie, Bo Beep and Buzz Lightyear to the experience in Andy’s room that apparently became a racing track during his time at college [32] [43]. I would love to see Elsa, Anna and Olaf from the Frozen franchise be the next racers in the fourth season or two, as long as the track based on Arendelle will not be too slippery to race on [11] [12] [32] [33]. Find your ohana as no Disney devotee gets left behind or forgotten, even after a race for gold in Disney Speedstorm [24] [33].

Aside from these three cartoony enlightenments that stand out on their own terms as additions [29] [33] [34], there is also a lot of hype for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, the direct sequel to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing, an upcoming racing game starring Shrek, Po, and several other DreamWorks stars [35] [44]. Outside of gaming, a whopping one million dollars shall be put into the production of one whole season of Lackadaisy and there will be a few mini episodes for the price of $500,000 extra [21]. Too bad Tom and Jerry Time has been cancelled though [38]. On a lighter note, I still cannot recommend The Super Mario Bros. Movie to fellow Nintendo nerds enough [42] [48] [49], which is now available to stream on Peacock [15]. Speaking of Super Mario, the red-hatted plumber’s competitor from SEGA is now available to be played with…or played as in a new LEGO form as the hype for Rayman’s truce with the Rabbids is on alongside four mutant ninja turtles’ quest in Minecraft and the third season of Disney Speedstorm [23] [29] [33] [34] [41]. I will always look forward to new gaming experiences with my fellow players and new animated attractions with my fellow animation admirers, whether I have decided to stop tweeting on X, formerly known as “Twitter” or not [5] [50] [51].
