The Sims Is Turning 22 - I Shall Celebrate With You

Sul sul [32] [71]! The tenth anniversary of The Sims FreePlay was celebrated back in late 2021 [54]. Before switching to Mac OS X for a change, I knew I would want to still be able to play any of the games for either PC or Mac from the franchise. Moreover, I planned to play The Sims Pet Stories for my new MacBook as The Sims 2: Pets for Microsoft Windows was the first expansion pack I owned in my teenage years [5], but I discovered that a physical copy of the game will not be compatible with macOC Catalina [39]. Alternatively, I may soon give in to the temptation of purchasing The Sims 2: Super Collection due to its fair and reasonable current price [6] [7]. I have been a sucker for The Sims ever since my grandfather introduced me to The Sims 2. I have so many fond memories of being a simmer, including recreating the iconic cover of Twilight by Stephenine Meyer in the DS version of The Sims 2 and creating Jane the Killer, my favourite creepypasta character in The Sims 3 [16] [18] [86] [95]. Furthermore, I would love to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the series, quite like how Arthur can have a birthday party at Muffy’s house [2] [3] [4] [22].
 

It sure is great to feel a little festive during yet another expansion of the franchise’s history. [54]

Too bad The Sims 2: Freetime and The Sims 2: Apartment Life were never released for Mac [75]. Speaking of Mac, I think browsing the App Store and discovering The Sims 2: Super Collection caused me to have a dream of a copy of The Sims 2 that featured the option for a young adult to attend university while living in a regular family home or apartment outside of campus [6]. I suppose I can treat myself to that collection later this year as it consists of the Family Fun, Glamour Life and Holiday stuff packs and how it is another legal way to purchase the base game besides seeking a legitimate physical copy in retail shops. [7]

SimCity and The Sims were created by Will Wright [81]. A sim who highly resembled how he looked in real life made numerous cameos throughout the series, including the large boulder that resembled his head in The Sims 2 and a portrait that can be during the creation of a student in The Sims 2: University. I do not doubt that he was such a good sport when it came to being parodied in The Simpsons Game as an interesting antagonist, considering that he was a celebrity guest starring as himself [13] [14]. Can you imagine what SimSandwich would have been like? In all seriousness though, he gained the idea of making a godlike creation system in a game is how a fire broke out in his old home and he had no choice but to rebuild his life from scratch [74] [81]. I am very sorry to hear about what he went through at that time and my heart goes out to him. The motivation to develop the game was a struggle to accomplish at first, but a little encouragement blossomed when Electronic Arts acquired Maxis. Reflecting on how The Sims 2 became the best-selling PC game of all time, I honestly consider Wright to be a great inspiration for aspiring video game designers.

Wright may have left EA in 2009, but we still thank him dearly for his ambitions. [81]

It is interesting to see what content sadly got cut. Aspects that never made it to the final outcome of The Sims include:     

• Ownership of a car [61]
• Investment opportunities through phone calls [61]
• Time of days and years shown in the HUD [61]

An early version of Dina Caliente was going to live in a scrapped neighbourhood named “Riverside” and be in love with a different Don whose surname is Baxter before the release of The Sims 2 [67] [79]. The Baxter family never made an appearance in the game or any of the expansion packs but were playable in a demo at E3 2004 [67]. Weather was originally going to be in The Sims all by itself without any expansion packs, but this was saved for The Sims 2: Seasons due to some time it took to tackle a rendering error [61]. Three scenarios that got cut were:

•   The engagement scenario that was like going on a date in The Sims 2: Nightlife
•   The big boss scenario that was similar to impressing the Headmaster of a private school
•   The power outage scenario that would have been an engaging conflict

Can you imagine if there were just a few more expansion packs for The Sims and The Sims 2 that featured most of the rejected ideas?

 

Other unused neighbourhoods from the development of The Sims 2 include Waterside, Sedora and Lakeview [79].Again, The Sims 2: Apartment Pets would have been better off as one more expansion pack for The Sims 2 [17] [89] [90]. If Garfield tells you to stop, I will tell you to go [92]. [67]

What could have been included in one more expansion pack for The Sims 3? China and Paris could have been locations for a sim to travel to in The Sims 3: World Adventures [61]. It would have been cool to see a clothing shop in any of the neighbourhoods in The Sims 3, but too bad that would have been pointless until the release of The Sims 3: Into The Future. There was a missed opportunity to establish a stuff pack in co-operation with Primark during the Sims 3 era though [42]. There was going to be a sports-themed bar for students to hang out in The Sims 3: University Life [61]. Rose Beach could have been part of The Sims 4. The scrapped families and households for The Sims 4: City Living include:

• Alania Pond and her father Jimmy
• Randy and Patricia Powers with their son Kennedy
• Memphis Waters and his girlfriend Rita Riveria
• A trio of roommates named Andy Campbells, Joel Meadows, and Iko Yono

It is important to not let quantity overshadow quality since some of us saw Space Jam: A New Legacy as an example of quantity being greater than quality to a specific degree [31] [47], yet it is also important to credit every single person involved in the production [1].

Strangely enough, clothes can be purchased in certain community lots in Downtown The Sims 2: Nightlife [15]. [61]

I think all the scrapped Sims 4 characters have moved to a village near Rose Beach. [61]

Aside from the frustration of accidentally creeping out non-playable sims in the mobile version of The Sims 3: World Adventures [89] [90], I am fascinated that there are sims that could be members of the Goth family, despite not appearing in the family tree, including:

• Rebecca Goth from the console version of The Sims 3: Pets [69]
• Mathilde Goth from Lunar Lakes [68]
• Roger Goth from Aurora Skies [70]
• Chiara Goth from Monte Vista [60]
• Jessie Goth from Sunlit Tides [64]
• Gloria Goth from The Sims 3: Island Paradise [63]
• Wulf and Trish Goth from the Wii version of The Sims 3 [80]

It is quite unusual how Cassandra Goth has an identical deceased cousin named “Bratty” and another deceased cousin simply named “Boy” in The Sims [63]. Speaking of deceased, it was confirmed that the mysterious version of Bella Goth in the graveyard at Lunar Lakes whose corpse consisted of light blonde hair is the same one from The Sims 2 [25] [58]. Surely, my theory on why Bella’s two aunts from The Sims Social are not included in the Bachelor family tree could be true as the Caliente sisters have an entirely different mother in The Sims 4 [20] [59]. A suggestion for how the Goth family can be further developed in the future of the franchise will be explained later on.

I bet the coolest guy of 2013 approved of the tropical vibes of The Sims 3: Island Paradise…and the beauty of Gloria Goth [46] [62]. As for the Bella Goth in Lunar Lakes, who is supposedly the same Bella Goth from Pleasantview and Sunset Valley, her information could indicate that grey is her second or new favourite colour. [58]

What else has The Sims 4 offered during the franchise’s previous anniversary? I liked the design of Bella Goth’s floral dress that appeared in The Sims 4: Dream Home Decorator, yet you cannot go wrong if her iconic strapless red dress [33]. More kits for The Sims 4 were released throughout the second half of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, including:

•  Industrial Loft Kit [64]
•  Fashion Street Kit [64]
•  Incheon Arrivals Kit [64]
•  Blooming Rooms Kit [64]
•  Modern Menswear Kit [64]
•  Carnaval Streetwear Kit [50] [64]

The Sims 4: Cottage Living was released in Summer 2021 [51], heavily enriched with country life vibes, quite like My Pokémon Ranch [36] [100] [101]. A suggestion I would make for a future kit would be titled “Vegan” with many vegan-friendly foods that are like the new meat-free nuggets from KFC and the new plant-based Babybel that is kept fresh in green wax [8]. Besides, there is a Vegetarian trait in The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 [18] [20]. And who knows? It seems like The Sims 4: Cottage Living could be the final expansion pack for the base game, so perhaps just one more kit or another free pack and then the next chapter could begin soon [76], despite an objection [23].

Maybe one new kit could be a collaboration with Primark [42]. A chocolate-themed kit would be appetising, quite like how the new chocolate-themed collection in the Celeste’s Chocolate Terrance event is sure to sweeten things up in the fifth version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp [35] [40] [41]. Who knows what theme another kit could be centred on? [65]

The Sims FreePlay is still going strong with update after update with the recent one being centred around celebrating Celebrating Lunar New Year [27] [43]. Can you imagine if The Sims Social, along with the other Facebook games from Playfish never got shut down back in 2013 [89] [90] [96] [97], lasting nearly as long as The Sims FreePlay? I am pretty sure they would have still got shut down alongside the closure of Adobe Flash Player in late 2020 but get revived by being converted to Hypertext Markup Language 5 afterwards, just like Club Penguin Rewritten [9]. But I digress as all good things must come to an end and the closure of The Sims Social at least made some room to develop other games in the franchise after the year 2012 [89] [90] [96] [97]. I still fondly remember Bella Goth cosplaying as the Queen of Hearts and the White Queen in the themes based on Alice In Wonderland and Alice: Madness Returns [56] [57]. As for The Sims FreePlay, would you believe that there is currently some lovely new Mexican-styled furniture and such in the twenty-second season of Influence Island [55]? Do I still hate the house in The Sims Mobile because of how often the furniture and appliances broke [96] [97]? Yes.

I fondly remember being a good neighbour to Bella Goth in The Sims Social [89] [90] [96] [97]. [56]

Still playing The Sims FreePlay to this day? That’s great! [54]

It may not be quite Valentine’s Day yet, but one can make love with another any day at any time. There have been so many ways to WooHoo throughout the series, making a sim’s sex drive as ambitious as a desert rat’s. The most common way to woohoo is lounging and cuddling on a double bed. With enough naughtiness to go around, a woohoo can commence in:

•  A sauna [82]
•  An actor’s trailer [82]
•  A spinning hammock [82]
•  A tent [82]
•  A party bush [82]
•  An elevator [82]
•  An igloo [82]
•  A hot air balloon [82]
•  An underwater cave [82]

I recall being quite amused at how many adult sims just gather around a woohoo in a photo booth and react to it in different ways [15]. I do not condone sexual interactions involving minors, but the option for the teens’ equivalent of WooHoo in The Sims 4 is titled “Mess Around” must imply that it is referencing the fact that the age of sixteen is the legal minimum age to have sex in the United Kingdom and some states in America [9] [20] [48].None of the ways to woohoo have been as controversial as the Hot Coffee modification for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas [24], but they were quite witty and always worth the fireworks.

A WooHoo between two sims who unmistakably love each other is worth the heart-shaped confetti, much like how new Valentine’s Day-themed pin designs would be worth a purchase to support the continuation of Helluva Boss [98] [99]. [82]

Do you still think the official trailer for The Sims 5 will eventually be released, despite how unnecessary it seems to make such a continuation by now [75]? I still stand by how I believe the new interpretation of Bella Goth should be aged down to a college student in a university-themed expansion pack for The Sims 5 as there has never been any hints or details of her college years in the series before [89] [90]. Besides, did she only marry Mortimer for his money? Alternatively, there can be some backstory on how Alexander Goth met Cecilia, his wife from the DS version of The Sims 3 [19], along with the return of Mathilde Goth from Lunar Lakes to confirm if she was really meant to be the third child of Mortimer and Bella or not [68]. Perhaps there can be brand new interpretations of many other characters from the MySims series in The Sims 5 [89] [90] [96] [97]. Quite unfortunately, it seems almost impossible for The Sims 5 to top The Sims 4 at this point since it was quite expected how The Sims 4: Spa Day was updated with new features six years after its release for PC and Mac [53], leading to the possibility of some other game packs being updated later this year.

Pity an HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for the Wii U turned out to be a hoax [28], but there may still be hope for The Sims 5 to become a reality with several consistencies [76], such as further exploration for Bella Goth by aging her down to a college student to make it more necessary than it sounds. The efforts of bringing an online cross between The Sims and SimCity into the outcome of The Sims 5 would feel quite like how the progress of establishing a remake of the first Tomb Raider game was given another shot [10] [84]. [63]

Maybe there can also be the option to send teenaged sims to a boarding school in an expansion pack for The Sims 5, basically making a new experience in a sub-neighbourhood a boarding school version of a young adult sim’s life in college. [74]

What other suggestions are there for The Sims 5? Reflecting on my suggestion for a new kit for The Sims 4, I believe that there can be a Vegan trait, which makes a sim feel sick from eating meat and other animal food products, such as milk and eggs and have the will to stick to vegan-friendly recipes, such as vegan sushi and vegan chocolate [26] [79] [83] [102]. Speaking of traits, there can be an option for a sim to come out as transgender in honour of even bigger diversity in gaming as Lia Hauata from The Sims 4: Island Living appeared to be transgender [66]. Why not include the preteen life stage from an update of The Sims FreePlay as a new life stage in between the child life stage and the teen life stage? There might as well be not only an open world for a sim to voyage in but perhaps some highly promising aspects from two cancelled games, which were SimsVille and The Sims Olympus in an online mode [72] [78]. You know, instead of a seemingly unnecessary The Sims 5, there can always be an animated series set after the events of The Sims 4 that is as promising and faithful to the source as The Cuphead Show [33]. No fighting [81]!

I remember bringing some ancestors back from the dead in The Sims 2 and one of them turned out to be a male sim in a female sim’s body, which is one of the reasons why I believe it would be important to include ethically and rather accurately portrayed transgenderism in The Sims 5. [66]

What could be next? A prequel set in the Stone Age? A sequel to The Sims Medieval featuring a lot more fantasy elements [96] [97], such as an ice palace ruled by an ice queen on top of a mountain? The Sims 5? An HD remake of My Pokémon Ranch [36] [100] [101]? [78]

This has been quite a rehash me of celebrating the twenty-first anniversary of the franchise, somewhat like how I had a rehash of my childhood with the Wanderful Interactive Storybooks Sampler app [88] [94]. Since a rehash can provide some differences to be notable on its own accords, Bella Goth might as well wear a blue version of her iconic dress in some copies of The Sims 4, quite like how the 2022 edition of the logo for a Sonic Mania mod known as the “Speedster Edition” consists of some tints of blue [28] [29]. More proactively in terms of something completely new, there can be a lot of potential in what The Sims 5 could bring us, such as some new exploration in the Goth family tree. But in the meantime, our dear simmers can continue to help their sims achieve great accomplishments, quite like how I earned the twenty-second star in The Princess’s Secret Slide in Super Mario 64 twice in January [36] [37] [91] [93]. More potential in the gaming industry and such this year is yet to roar like tigers in this new lunar year. I shall look forward to other things in 2022, possibly including asdfmovie15 [44] [45]. Deg deg [32] [71]!

Anyone for losing at the lower-class flight minigame and having to fill a certain need at a complete stranger’s house later [96] [97]? No thanks. Count me out. [63]
