More Sights, Sounds And Speed For Sonic Frontiers

Remember reading my Sonic Frontiers article sandwich throughout 2022 [40] [41]? Well, consider this one the little cupcake with blue frosting for dessert, considering that June marks the heroic blue rodent’s birthday [26] [28]. I know that I am a little late to the party, but Sonic’s birthday can still be celebrated on the 26th of July because that marks the anniversary of his first adventure’s release in Japan [19]. The second update for Sonic Frontiers consisting of downloadable content for the game that redefined the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise was released yesterday alongside Sonic Origins Plus during this year’s Sonic Central after another trailer for Sonic Superstars was revealed at the second Nintendo Direct of 2023 [12] [28] [31]. And speaking of Sonic Superstars, I am quite fascinated at how Dr. Eggman’s LEGO form will be a skin for those who pre-order the game [28]. Aside from how I am pretty sure Sir Lancelot in his second shining armour will protect a fair lesbian who reminds him of Maria Robotnik during Pride Month [11] [28], I shall continue to party after chuckling in amusement at Dr. Eggman’s rap and other antics in a new advert for his debut in a series of LEGO playsets [28] [31].
Aside from the event celebrating Sonic’s birthday with co-operation of Hypland in Los Angeles [4] [8], can you believe that there will be a new version of Sonic Dash featuring the interpretations of the characters from Sonic Prime that will be released as a promotion for the second season by the name of “Sonic Prime Dash” [28]? [28]
Despite my bitterness towards the Sonic fandom at times, I have nothing against those who still see the blue speedster and his adventures as coping mechanisms. Heck, he was a coping mechanism for me when I was attending a high school that was like Waterloo Road against my will [2] [15]. And now, on with the birthday celebration [31]! [28]

Let us have a little recap of 2023 before Sonic’s birthday. Previously, the first update for Sonic Frontiers featured:
  •       The Juke Box for playing any of fifty-three songs with forty of them being unlockable [17] [30]
  •       Photo Mode for taking photographs [17] [30]
  •       Battle Rush [17] [30]
  •       Cyber Space Challenge [17] [30]
  •       New “Springtime” designs for the Koco [30]
The day after the first wave of DLC and the hype for Sonic Origins Plus [23] [24] [34] [42], Princess Elise from Sonic ‘06 made a grand return as a figure skater with Silver the Hedgehog in new artwork for the 2023 calendar on Sonic Channel, much to my delight as she deserves some new recognition after so long [16] [25]. Furthermore, I am pretty sure that she has gotten more confident and potentially independent in a new timeline after the events of Sonic ’06 were erased, resulting in her father possibly being alive [16]. Aside from that, I remember trying out the Photo Mode on the PlayStation 5 at my local senior gaming club, checking out all the filters [14]. Now that the second update is out alongside Sonic Origins Plus and the official trailer for the second season of Sonic Prime [18] [22] [28] [34] [42], I believe that the year 2023 has gotten even better for Sonic the Hedgehog.

What does the second update have to offer? There are some new Open Zone Challenges referred to as “Action Chain Challenges”, providing something fairly new to the overall gameplay experience [17] [28] [31]. Some new members of the Koco tribe will also make an appearance to join the festivity, including some big Koco wearing crowns [31]. And speaking of festivity, Mr. Sonic will wear some funky sunglasses, a red bowtie and a matching party hat, faintly similar to his classic incarnation wearing a tuxedo with a top hat in a new event in Sonic Speed Simulator on Roblox, much to our amusement to go along with what appears to be a new birthday-themed area [28] [31]. Those decorations are completely optional, like changing a sim’s hair colour and planning their outfit in The Sims 2: Super Collection [1] [17]. There also seems to be the return of the iconic spin dash, which can be unlocked by achieving the S rank in the Action Chain Challenges [28] [31]. And last but not least, there is a new Game + mode to dash through [17]. I have no association with Doc Brown from the Back To The Future trilogy [5], but suppose something similar to the second wave of DLC for Sonic Frontiers can be established in honour of Sonic’s 40th anniversary in 2031 [15] [28] [31].

There is still some speculation on how new storylines from the third update will excel, providing further depth within the supporting characters’ roles and their forthcoming playabilities [17]. Firstly, it is consistent and convenient to let Knuckles be a playable character, considering how Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Divergence was centred around him and how he got captured [29]. There will also be more to the role of Miles “Tails” Prower, the host of TailsTube [28]. Amy Rose’s playability is sure to provide some preteen power, considering how 2023 is the 30th of anniversary of her debut and there is an upcoming comic book series from IDW Publishing centred on that. There is something touching about Sage evolving into a daughter figure to Dr. Eggman, which gave him some depth underneath that villainous layer [14]. It is speculated that the forthcoming new plot points in Sonic Frontiers for Tails, Knuckles and Amy will take place in Cyber Space, allowing them to re-experience some memories as well [14]. Could Sage also be playable within some expanded character progression [17]? Some new perspectives aside from the blue speedster’s await sometime after Wiggler, Kamek and Petey Pirhana compete in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass [38] [39].
The main adventure in Starfall Islands, including Chaos Island and Rhea Island was an open-world amazement [21], yet it will soon be extended with some new playable perspectives. [17]
Happy 32nd anniversary to the blue speedster’s legacy [26]! 2023 has gotten even better for him [28]. I still do not doubt that Sonic is an LGBTQ+ rights supporter, considering how his birthday is within Pride Month [13]. He must fix a big mistake he made with his antiheroic counterpart in the second season of Sonic Prime later this Summer [28]. Can you believe that he will be a special guest in a new stage based on City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2 in Samba De Amigo: Party Central as well? In the meantime, please show some thankfulness, compassion and respect to all of the artists and animators who worked on Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, including the one who left its production [32] [36]. Criticism can provide importance, but we can express why we dislike a certain aspect of a new movie without insulting the appearances of actors or actresses or those who can point out pros over cons [3] [35]. While FIFA eSports players balance their passion for FIFA footballing with their amazingly large income from it and we sense some redemption that awaits sinners in Hazbin Hotel later this Summer [6] [7] [37] [43], let us continue to relish in the good times to be grateful for, including the celebration of a heroic blue hedgehog’s birthday [26] [28].
This August, Sonic will go on his 900th adventure [20] [33]. In the meantime, the second part of the Season One finale of Helluva Boss has finally been unleashed from its legality struggles [9] [10]. How about a slice of cake for the Sonic supporters who are noble at heart [26]? [27]
