Can Lara Croft Survive Dead by Daylight This July?

A rumour speculating the appearance of Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider franchise in a yet another crossover event in Dead by Daylight spawned during the Twisted Masquerade Event (and the admirations for Barbie’s stylish collaborations with Putt Buddies and the modern incarnation of Polly Pocket from those who would be…shall we say…”too afraid” to play [1] [36] [38] [39]? There is nothing wrong with going for both femininely fun AND frightening though, especially if you consider yourself seduced by a certain Catherine… [7]) [21]. This rumour was later confirmed as one daring gamer can tell by a few promotional clips on social media and some footage of beta testing for Croft’s strive to…you guessed it [3] [9] [19] [20] [23]! Survive! It looks like ijug’s mod of the iconic archaeologist in the game he showcased back in December 2021 has predicted the future and so has my prediction that she would eventually make an appearance in an event due to how unsettling and gruesome her deaths are in the Survivor timeline trilogy [29] [45] [49] [50]. Although I am thrilled that another prediction of mine has come true [49] [50], I am nervous for one of my all-time favourite video game characters as she will play the role of a new Survivor in Dead by Daylight next month [3] [9] [10]. In the meantime, Aestri Yazar maintains the role of a Survivor as Vecna keeps on killing as a Killer for fans of Dungeons & Dragons in the survival horror game that has spooked players for eight years [15] [17].

By now, you know that the beloved heroine is no stranger to crossovers as you may recall her guest appearances in Magic: The Gathering, The Walking Dead: Survivors, Brawlhalla and so on [5] [24] [28] [46] [47]. You may be thinking that her forthcoming appearance in Dead by Daylight is not really needed as you can already customise a Survivor to look a lot like her with the right features, especially the brunette low ponytail [31]. Nonetheless, you cannot deny the thrill of THE Lara Croft officially becoming a Survivor [3] [9] [10]. Too scared to play as her in a survival horror game this July? You can look forward to nurturing your campsite throughout the rest of this Summer in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp if you consider yourself an animal crosser instead [35] [37]. [10]

The younger and more emotionally vulnerable but ultimately courageous incarnation of Ms. Croft from the reboot that was launched in 2013 is rendered in all her strength and beauty in The Fog [11] [19] [23]. The one who will guide her through her most horrifying journey yet must help her uncover treasures in chests and cooperate with other Survivors, such as Ellen Ripley from the Alien franchise and Alan Wake from the game with the same name [2] [3] [9] [12]. It would be quite bizarre to see her get assassinated by Chucky from the Child’s Play franchise [14], Michael Myers from the Halloween films or Naughty Bear from the game with the same name [16] [25] [26] [27] [34]. Nevertheless, Croft’s survival instincts in the grittiness and suspenseful nature of Dead by Daylight can be considered much more fitting and a little more in character than her building and destroying houses during a storm in the colourful world of Fortnite [10] [11] [19] [20] [22] [23] [51]. As terrified as I am for my girl whose goal is to triumph against the Killer with three fellow Survivors next month [3] [9] [10] [11] [19] [20], I am still as proud of her for being a special guest in Dead by Daylight as I was proud of all three incarnations her for being part of the second chapter of the sixth season of Fortnite: Battle Royale back in Spring 2021 [51].

Still too scared to join Lara Croft in Dead by Daylight after the beta testing for her appearance [23]? Feel free to set an entirely different mood by diving into Crab God instead [48]. Admittedly, the crossover trend in Dead by Daylight is not as “forced” as many crossovers in Fortnite: Battle Royale due to it all being centred on horror [14] [15] [16] [50]. What could be next? The Slender Man becoming a new Killer in the game [42]? Well, that could be the case if the concept was not hindered by the risk of disrespecting the lore of the mythical icon and the horrific impact a certain incident that happened in real life left on a community a decade ago [8] [41] [43] [44] [52] [56]. I could suggest the Blitzo or Striker from Helluva Boss becoming a new Killer to witness an imp from Hell in an outstanding new 3D style [4] [33] [40], but the show’s adult humour and cartoony artistry would probably not clash well with the game’s realistic essences of survival horror [32]. Crusaders of the Castlevania series are sure to stay alert this August after Ms. Croft’s determination to survive on the 16^th of July [9] [13]. As hardened as a modernised “classic” incarnation of her was in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile nearly a year ago [6], can the younger incarnation from the first game in the Survivor timeline survive in Dead by Daylight this year [19] [20]? 

Be the best Survivor in Dead by Daylight you can be as if you were in Ms. Croft’s boots over a week before the release of Deadpool & Wolverine this July [3] [9] [10] [30] [55]! And keep an eye out for her new character growth in Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft on Netflix this October [53] [54]! In all seriousness, even after the primes of popular creepypastas, we need to keep respecting boundaries and ensuring that others, especially minors are safe when it comes to showing admiration for horror as it is creativity, not reality [8] [43] [52]. Is Earthworm Jim Transgender?

It is not every day you see a worm in an advanced suit that provides super strength [4]. In fact, it has been fourteen years since Earthworm Jim appeared in a video game, which is a remake of the first game of the Earthworm Jim series from 1994 titled “Earthworm Jim HD” that was released in 2010 [16]. The most notable aspect of the Earthworm Jim games would be the bizarre hilarity, including the moment when Jim suddenly eats the evil goldfish when we thought there was going to be a boss battle [39] [52]. I fondly remember watching his television series that first aired from 1995 to 1996 when I was a child [15] [53]. The moment he got a pony for Christmas and hugged it affectionately in its Christmas special was utterly adorable and I would not be surprised if he happens to be a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic [19] [22]. A year ago, I caught a theory about a groovy earthworm quite like how the early bird would catch the worm and I am not the only one who did [54]. This year, let us keep showing our support for the LGBTQIA+ community as we gather a few theories on Earthworm Jim’s gender identity, especially during this Pride Month [34] [53].

Thank goodness neither Phil or Lil from Rugrats nor that elderly woman from that advert ate Jim during his absence [35] [44]! Some of you may recall the theory that Rin from Catherine: Full Body would turn out to be transgender back in 2018 before the game was released and he turned out to be a male crossdresser a year later [9] [78] [79]. As for Earthworm Jim, there are a few things to speculate about his gender identity [54], not just because of a recent petition regarding an awkwardly designed fast food meal toy [63]. [9]

This is not the first time I had a theory about a video game character as some of you may also recall my speculation on Vincent Brooks from Catherine having Stockholm syndrome, along with my theory of Sam-I-Am from the animated series based on the book by Dr. Suess possibly having bipolar disorder back in 2020 [62] [76] [77] [84] [85]. Additionally, the theory regarding Earthworm Jim is very much like a theory regarding Horrid Henry with the biggest clue being Great Aunt Greta calling him “Henrietta” [7] [25]. [15]

The final boss in Earthworm Jim 3D, the least critically acclaimed game of the franchise is no other than Earthworm Kim, an image of his feminine side who has blonde hair and purple eyes [17] [52]. Her misandry was uncalled for and she sounded quite materialistic with the need for more credit cards aside from her goal to take over Jim’s mind [75]. Why is she so antagonistic as a figment of his subconscious and why is he so resentful towards her? Perhaps he is afraid of being mistreated for coming out as a transwoman later in life or he is a transman aiming to cherish his masculinity, as well as his true self. It is more likely that he is a closeted transwoman as he has cross-dressed a few times in the television series [54] [67], yet not all cross-dressers and drag performers are transgender [50]. Somewhat similarly, it can be said that Riley from Inside Out and Inside Out 2 may come out as non-binary, genderfluid, intersex or transgender in her later teens or twenties since Joy, Sadness, Envy, Ennui, Anxiety, Disgust and Nostalgia are female and Fear, Embarrassment and Anger are male [28] [29] [30]. Earthworm Kim’s portrayal seems to have not aged well [65] [75], but it can still be a big part of a theory regarding Earthworm Jim’s identity as it can be considered some representation of gender dysphoria [38] [54].

Another fact that backs up a theory about Jim’s identity is that earthworms in real life are hermaphrodites, consisting of both male and female organs. It can be argued that Jim is genderfluid, intersex or bigender rather than transgender due to earthworms being hermaphroditic [10] [24] [37] [48] [54] [68] [72]. To an extent, I can agree with this statement as this would show that Jim’s gender is not fixed. It can be said that Bugs Bunny, one of the most loveable and iconic cartoon characters of all time is also genderfluid as trans people viewed him as an icon in the ‘80s and there was a confirmation that he does not have a set gender from Chuck Jones in the ‘90s [8]. Both Bugs and Jim have cross-dressed [8] [54], but again, it is important to understand that not all cross-dressing performers are transgender [50]. As important as it would be to make Jim remain the groovy guy he was in the ‘90s and the remake of his first adventure in 2010 if he will FINALLY make a big comeback [16] [27] [51] [66], it would also be important to ensure that some new character development for him centred around his possible gender dysphoria will be portrayed accurately and respectfully [54] [75]. Perhaps Evil Jim feel the same way, as unlikely as that sounds [18].

Slay, Groovy Jim! SLAAAAAAAAY [4] [59]!!! As thrilled as I have been about Princess Peach from the Super Mario franchise starring her own game and Sallie May from Helluva Boss gaining some character progression in the first-ever Helluva Short this year [36] [45] [82] [83], I am humbled to believe that earthworm could possibly be genderfluid, meaning that his gender identity will change over time and Earthworm Kim must have been around in reality at some point [17] [48] [52] [75]. Furthermore, his biggest fear revealed in the mid-‘90s television series is public toilets, which is another sign of gender dysphoria and anxiety regarding it [54]. I am up for Kim returning as a feminist icon, but not with a mindset of misandry [75]. After all, being a feminist does NOT mean being a misandrist and men can be feminists too [59]. [54]

The last time we saw Jim was in two teasers for an animated series titled “Earthworm Jim: Beyond the Groovy” in late 2021 [86], followed by two more trailers in 2022 [66]. In the trailers, the animation looks polished with rather graceful movements [89]. The two versions of Groovy Jim’s interview could possibly be a crack in the fourth wall before he goes into detail about his journey through the Solar System to taste the best dirt he can find…and his time at rehab [66] [86]. Not only could there be the return of Peter Puppy and Princess What’s-Her-Name in the fascinatingly updated animation style aside from an unknown female earthworm character seen in a spaceship two of the teasers on his journey to find the finest dirt in the universe [15] [66] [86], but there could be an updated interpretation of Earthworm Kim with not an ounce of misandry on her mind who could appear as a figment of Jim’s imagination as an ally rather than a foe, leading to a moment of him dealing with gender dysphoria [17] [38] [52] [64] [65] [75]. There is still hope. that despite being put on hold, the animated series has ultimately not been cancelled altogether because of a few postponements and a lack of motivation [27] [89], which supposedly happened to the Sly Cooper movie [26]. 

Peter Puppy is almost as adorable as Pikachu, the United Kingdom’s favourite Pokémon [20] [32]. I would also like to see the pony Jim got for Christmas in “For Whom the Jingle Bell Tolls” reappear in the forthcoming animated series and with a personality that could be quite like Dainty Dove or Berry Bright from the second generation of the My Little Pony franchise [19] [42] [43]. [20]

There are some other types of humour during Jim’s interview to further boost the series’ potential, especially near the end of the teaser where Jim accidentally shoots a laser beam from his trusty pistol [66]. As well as the familiar humour that made the Earthworm Jim series memorable in its own way [52], there can be a moment of him dealing with gender dysphoria in honour of some representation in today’s society if he really is trans or genderfluid as he mentions as “identity crisis” in his interview [66] [75]. But alas, there is still some speculation that the project could ultimately and sadly be cancelled if it remains shelfed [21]. If so, then my commiserations to Groovy Jim [66]. On a lighter note, Nintendo nerds can hail Princess Zelda’s empowering playability in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom this September and see Mario and Luigi’s brotherhood remain unbreakable in Mario & Luigi: Brothershipthis November [46] [47]. [66] [86]

Whether Earthworm Jim is possibly transgender, genderfluid or intersex [54], we will always remember his legacy as a heroic invertebrate in a super suit as I stand with trans rights and representation [12] [13] [36] [49] [51] [55] [56]. I also stand by the possibility of Kaa from The Jungle Book being non-binary, just like one of the newest members of the Angry Birds and Catbat from Crash Team Rumble, genderfluid or bigender due to how they are male in some adaptations and female in others [1] [2] [24] [31] [50] [68]. Unfortunately, Doug TenNapel, the creator of the Earthworm Jim series has a history of making homophobic and transphobic remarks [65] [87], but at least the groovy earthworm still has fans who support LGBTQIA+ rights and representation and not condone any harassment, especially death threats towards TenNapel. During the plodding wait for the reboot of the animated series from the ‘90s that could still be taken into full action with hopefully no rushing during its development [21] [27] [66] [89], there can be some new exceptional fanfictions once inspiration and imagination are engaged. Speaking of reboots, perhaps the forthcoming possibly animated television series based on the Twilight quadrilogy by Stephenie Meyer could feature a new interpretation of Bella Swan who would be a decent representation of young autistic women [5] [23], according to a few fan theories [3] [11] [86]. I gotta go before a cow or a fridge lands on me [51]! Eat dirt, transphobes!
